TORONTO (February 8, 2017) — Brands For Canada, Canada’s most cost-efficient charity will unite hearts on Friday, February 10th at 6:00 PM as they host the United Hearts Gala, featuring several distinguished Canadian guests and performers. The event will raise money for two Brands For Canada initiatives; the Students’ Basics Program as well as the Shelter Program. These programs focus on supporting impoverished members of Canadian society with care packages and supplies. This incredible gala will take place at the Liberty Grand in the Governor’s Ballroom.

The Brands For Canada ‘United Hearts Gala’ is destined to be one of Toronto’s largest, most glamorous charity events of 2017. With culturally diverse installations of dancing, art, music, and fashion, this gala should be on everyone’s list of not-to-be-missed events this year. Few large-scale charity events occur each year that are so inclusive to those who are looking to contribute to such a widespread cause. Confirmed distinguished guests include The Honourable Minister of Finance, Charles Sousa.

Host of the landmark event will be beloved television personality from CTV’s The Social and etalk, Traci Melchor. Traci’s career has seen her interview hundreds of the biggest stars in entertainment and as a true renaissance woman, she supports various charitable organizations and events.

“By engaging individuals, corporations and organizations in conversations about how they can make a direct impact on the lives of those in need, we are creating a service for a circular economy, as we bridge the gap between surplus production and meeting the immediate needs of communities dealing with poverty,” says Helen Harakas, Executive Director, Brands For Canada.

Brands For Canada is thrilled to have TD Bank Group continue its support of our organization as Presenting Sponsor of the United Hearts Gala and are so pleased that Sylvia Fazzolari, Vice President of Commercial Banking will be present to provide welcome remarks on behalf of TD.

Generous sponsors include: Labatt; the after-party sponsor, Viana Roofing, Boston Scientific, Cortel Group, TACC. Development; the entertainment sponsor, and media sponsors, St. Joseph Media and Rogers Media. The principle program sponsor is P&G.

United Hearts encompasses two specific programs:

UNITED HEARTS STUDENT PROGRAM: In partnership with the Toronto District School Board; Brands For Canada delivers care packages filled with basic necessities such as new clothing, personal care items and school supplies directly to 300 schools for their students in need.

UNITED HEARTS SHELTER PROGRAM: Children, women, men, and families entering shelters will be gifted with backpacks of new, comforting items such as pajamas, slippers, toys, toothbrushes and blankets. GALA HIGHLIGHTS: Guests can contribute to the valuable on-going work of United Hearts by participating in a variety of events at the gala. They can bid on circulating silent auction items during the evening. Then Auctionista Layne will wow guests with her engaging style as she leads the exciting live auction. Layne is one of just three Benefit Auctioneer Specialists (BAS) graduates in Canada, and among the less than one percent of Auctioneers in North America with this specialized training. Among the big-ticket items at the live auction is a trip for four to the Torre Fiore Hotel Masseria in Basilicata, in the stunning south of Italy, donated by the FRAM Group and valued at $9,000. Whitney Linen is giving guests the opportunity to bid on a bespoke linen gown and suit, with a designer fitting at Marlon Durant Studio in Yorkville valued at $5500. Or, guests may bid on a sweet and early holiday treat from Fashion Santa, who will make sure your festive card photos are taken to the next level.

Happy New Year Toronto! North America’s #1 Downloaded Restaurant Payment App is coming to Toronto in 2017!

(TORONTO, Jan. 5, 2017)– The Vancouver-based financial technology company, Glance Technologies Inc. (CSE:GET.CN) (FKT:GJT) (OTC Pink:GLNNF), is pleased to announce expansion plans for the Glance Pay Mobile Payment App, a free mobile payment app designed to allow diners a fast and easy way to pay their restaurant bills on their smartphones.

After its initial launch in Vancouver on September 7, 2016, Glance Pay quickly hit the restaurant industry by storm, and it is now live in over 50 restaurants with over 130 restaurants signed, including Fable Diner , Thai House Restaurant, Tuc Craft KitchenNuba, The Oakwood, Urban Thai,  The Fountainhead PubPink Elephant , Blue Martini Jazz Café and Sai Woo. With the app buzzing in cities across British Columbia, the City of Vancouver and surrounding suburban cities, Torontonians in 2017 will soon be able to pay for their meals in seconds without the wait. Glance Pay plans to launch its first restaurant in Toronto in early 2017 having already partnered with a Toronto-based representative to handle restaurant relations for the company locally.

Negative payment experiences at the end of a meal are the Achilles’ heel of dining out for guests and restaurants alike.  But with Glance Pay this process can be as quick and easy as taking a picture.

“Glance Technologies has developed a game-changing and unique payment technology experience like no other,” says Penny Green, Glance Technologies’ Chief Operating Officer, “people already have a payment machine with them, their smartphone. With Glance Pay there will be no more waiting for servers and machines.”

Additional Glance Pay features include the ability for customers to request an electronic bill, digital expense tracking and earning exclusive restaurant rewards.

“Our app allows restaurants to offer a better dining experience to their customers. It allows them to turn tables over faster, save money, increase revenue, and be more efficient.”

Glance Pay is the brainchild of Desmond Griffin, the Co-founder of PayByPhone, the app that revolutionized the way drivers worldwide pay for parking and tolls. The app allowed drivers to turn their smartphones into their own personal parking metre with ease. Griffin expects to bring the simplicity of paying without the hassle of flagging a server or a machine down to Toronto’s restaurant industry. “Everyone has been frustrated with the payment process at restaurants at one time or another, especially at peak times when restaurants are full and servers are busy,” says Desmond Griffin, President and CEO of Glance Technologies Inc.

“Glance Pay helps eliminate long wait times and negative payment experiences. The app allows you to simply select your portion of the bill, your tip, confirm the amount and earn exclusive restaurant rewards and go. There is no need to wait for a payment card machine, and customers can pay and go on their own time. You can even email yourself the bill, enjoy digital tracking of your receipts, and manage your rewards all in one place. Glance Pay makes life so much easier for the restaurant and the customer.”

To foster Glance Pay’s growth in Toronto, Pennant Media Group will work alongside Glance Technologies to form partnerships and handle strategic media relations.

Glance Pay is the next step toward wallet-less transactions that are changing the way smartphone users interact with their favourite restaurants and make paying easy and accessible. Having experienced such a positive response in the Vancouver area, Glance Technologies is poised to expand across the Western Provinces and into Toronto and Montreal in 2017.

Glance Pay is currently available for free download in Apple’s App Store, Google Play’s Android Store or at GlancePay.com.

About Glance Technologies, Inc.

Canadian Indie Singer-Songwriter Lawnie Wallace Performs Her Latest Hits at Seven44 this Friday

Canadian indie singer-songwriter Lawnie Wallace, recently had a very successful showcase where she debuted her new band and sound. She will be performing her newest hits, remastered songs, cover songs and some classics on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Seven44 (744 Mt Pleasant Rd, Toronto, ON) from 9pm to 1am.

Lawnie Wallace released her highly anticipated studio album The Lost Years, last August after a 10-year hiatus. She has worked hard since then to bring the right band members together to create the perfect sound for her next album to be recorded in November of this year. Lawnie is now working with bassist Chris McAleer, drummer Graham Mackey from Hermans End and guitarist Larry Bethune who previously worked with Alannah Myles.

Lawnie has had the opportunity to work with former member of the Canadian alternative rock band Glueleg, Ruben Huizenga. She has also collaborated with Canadian fiddler D’Arcy Good of The Good Band and drummers Dave Carruthers, Ken Griffin and Matt DeMatteo.

Lawnie Wallace began her career in the music industry at the young age of seven when she sang a song she wrote called The Trees are Green at a benefit concert for Barrie tornado victims. This performance led to great demand and she was invited to sing for many high profile events. Lawnie landed an artist’s development deal with Warner Chappell, which was followed by a publishing deal with TMP Publishing. Before the age of 18, Lawnie secured a major record deal leading to the debut of her first album, Thought I Was Dreaming. The album made it to the top 10 charts consequently taking her on a major cross Canada tour with several high rotation video on Country Music Television (CMT). She has also had the privilege of landing a significant position working with students wanting to be in the Radio and Television industry. Her career pause allowed her to experiment with new sound she dubbed ‘Southern Fried Techno’, which led to a recording of the album, OOKEE based on her childhood nickname. She had placed top 10 in an international song writing competition and received an honourable mention with one of the songs from the OOKEE album called “Sugarland”, a song she co-wrote with her current producer Ruben Huizenga and father William Wallace.

Three Seasons of Hilarious Online Comedy Series – The Amazing Gayl Pile – Now Available on CBC Comedy

Comedic notables in recurring roles include Paul Scheer (“The League”), Jon Daly (“Kroll Show”), Scott Thompson (“The Kids In The Hall”), Rich Fulcher (“The Mighty Boosh”), and Esther Povitsky (“Lady Dynamite,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”) with guest appearances by June Diane Raphael (“Grace and Frankie,” “Burning Love”) and Jack McBrayer (“30 Rock”) in the season three premiere and Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”) as the voice of Gayl Pile’s Digital Companion.

Oddball, demented and unhinged are just a few of the words used to describe “The Amazing Gayl Pile” (30 x 8-20 minutes). The Canadian-made web series-turned-Seeso Original about one man’s misguided quest to conquer the world of home shopping just landed on CBC Comedy in Canada, with all three seasons now available on CBC’s digital destination for comedy content.

Creators, co-stars and executive producers Morgan Waters and Brooks Gray are back with a star-studded cast, including Paul Scheer in a recurring role and serving as an executive producer, and Jon Hamm as the voice of Gayl’s digital condo, C.A.M. (Condo Automated Module).

“It felt natural to put on the pleated khakis and channel my inner asexual-home-shopping-host-with-mommy-issues. I guess deep down, I’ve always been a little bit Gayl” said Morgan Waters.

The binge-worthy series combines a hilarious mix of actors and real people and demonstrates the (not so) glamorous behind the scenes of a third-rate home shopping network set in Hamilton, Ontario.

“We are so excited to add ‘The Amazing Gayl Pile’ to our growing slate of CBC Digital Originals, deepening our commitment to investing in Canada’s brightest digital storytellers, and forging a new relationship with Seeso in the process,” said Zach Feldberg, Executive in Charge of Production, Digital Originals, CBC. “With “Gayl,” Morgan and Brooks have created a singular piece of hilarious and brilliant Canadiana — and we think viewers will agree that there is truly nothing else like it.”

“The Amazing Gayl Pile” is executive produced by Matt King and Andrew Ferguson for LaRue Entertainment in association with Tom Spriggs for The Coronel Group, Jonathan Stern for Abominable Pictures, and Becca Kinskey for Ideal Milk Co. The series is distributed by LaRue Entertainment.

All three seasons are available on Seeso in the US and CBC Comedy in Canada.

Designer James Loppie Innovates In Small Space Design At The Fall Home Show

Feature designer, James Loppie, is providing creative, playful and innovative small space solutions with EverBlock® at the Colour BLOCK-IN space, at theEnercare Centre, during the FALL HOME SHOW, from September 23 – 25, 2016.

Swing by Colour BLOCK-IN, an interactive space featuring the modular building block system. Meet with feature design innovator James Loppie and be inspired by unlimited design possibilities to transform your space.

Release your inner kid in the hands-on building area where you can build nearly anything from the modular system of large-scale LEGO-like bricks, oversized plastic blocks that snap together to form structures and life-sized furniture. This unique modular building system is designed to bring out the designer in everyone.  It’s quick and easy to build nearly anything, by stacking and organizing the universal blocks in nearly any shape, pattern, or size.

Anything you’ve constructed can be taken apart and re-assembled again, and the pieces can be re-used to build other objects, making EverBlock® a unique green building method. From modular seating to modular shelving and from event furniture to office furniture there are so many things you can build with EverBlock distributed through Creative Club.

James Loppie Design is about the art of living meeting the art of creativity. He has over 25 years’ experience and specializes in transforming spaces and bringing together a simple eco chic personalized design perspective on the various projects he works on. He is known for his playful approach and interesting use of materials. With this knowledge he is able to work in various areas of design.

The creative process of James Loppie is inspired by an authentic, open response to the materials and opportunities that present themselves. His love for sustainability thinking and use of eco materials sets a clear path for his creative energy.

The future of James Loppie Design is to continue to be open in a very holistic mindset and allow the creative journey to continue.
