A thought-provoking tale of human connections, Skinning the Cat launches a world premiere in its hometown of Hamilton.

Canadian Actor Matt Willson and Director Jeff Santa Barbara present the film adaptation of the successful Hamilton play, Skinning the Cat. The film will be making its debut at a screening in Hamilton, taking place at . A thought-provoking tale of human connections and conflicts, Skinning the Cat centers around the story of two men – Ned (Matt Willson) and Bruce (Jonathan Harrison) – who explore the idea of forgiveness and new possibilities.

The film takes the audience through a suspenseful story of abduction and threats leading to a deeper understanding of the complicated relationships that people form with one another. Through flashbacks and present dialogues, confessions are made and original agendas are abandoned. Both men are changed after their time together, but neither knows if this change is for the better or not.

Skinning the Cat is about taking responsibility for the past, whether it was something we did, or had done to us. It poses the question, if we as human beings can come to terms with what has happened and move forward. Skinning the Cat offers no answers, only possibilities.

About the Cast and Crew:

With abilities ranging from classical acting, Shakespeare, comedy and improvisation, to advanced acting, stage combat and singing, Matthew Willson demonstrates extraordinary versatility on stage and in front of the camera. With over 400 stage performances under his belt, Willson has received critical reviews for his work in theatre, starring in plays such as Oliver!, The Full Monty, Mambo Italiano, Waiting for Godot, Glass Menagerie, Glen Gary Glen Ross, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and A Lie of the Mind. Matthew Willson is also best-known for his performance in Michael Lee Chin’s The Artists.

Currently residing in New Zealand, Jeff Santa Barbara began his career as a director in technical theatre production in Hamilton, Ontario. From there, he moved on to producing and directing across the province. Having been the original director of the playwright theatrical production of Skinning the Cat, Jeff took on the project of adapting it into his first feature film alongside the original cast and crew. “Skinning the Cat has such a unique and fresh story to tell that it seemed like the appropriate step to turn it into a movie,” Jeff says, “It is the kind of story that leaves the audience guessing and wanting more.”

img-SkinningTheCatJonathan Harrison started acting at a New Zealand teacher’s college in the ‘60’s. In the 70’s he toured Canada’s Yukon, then Alberta and Saskatchewan. Leaving professional theatre behind him, he wrote an arts column throughout the 90’s. He has since acted and directed throughout the Kitchener/Hamilton area. Some favourite roles include Higgins, Fagin and German conductor Furtwangler.

With a strategic approach to filmmaking; Ben Locche has been honing his craft producing socially relevant and historically based Canadian docu-dramas, educational programming, public service announcements, music videos and award winning commercials since 1999.
Lead by his passion for storytelling and an opportunity to collaborate with stage theatre professionals, Ben accepted the challenge to help convert the stage play into a feature film. Ben is currently developing a feature screenplay entitled When Opportunity Kills, which explores the exploitation of the Ontario Student Farm Program that was in place during the early 1890’s.

Barbados’ latest singing sensation and breakout artist KITORAH returns to Toronto for an encore performance at the 7th Annual Barbados Charity Ball

Toronto – June 10, 2010

Following on the heels of her successful performance at the 2007 Barbados Music Awards, where she performed her first single and original song, From This Day On, the island’s next big name, KITORAH will be back to Toronto for a second time around. On June 12, 2010, KITORAH will be performing for the 7th Annual Barbados Charity Ball as held by the Barbados Ball Canada Aid.

No stranger to the music industry, KITORAH got her first big break while still in her teens, when she won the Barbadian Richard Stoute Teen Talent Award. Since then KITORAH has worked on numerous musical collaborations, including co-writing and producing three songs on her first solo album, “Love Like Mine”, with the celebrated Jimmy “Senya” Haynes.

Her first single, “Love Like Mine” was co-written with Kristina Unjhem, a Norwegian singer/songwriter and produced by Deekay Music/Pop City, producers for the British boy group, BLUE. The title track was released in the Caribbean in September 2007. The song delivers to the industry the same Caribbean Dancehall/Soca rhythmic style similar to some of the major players in the game.

Demonstrating her accomplishment as a singer-songwriter, KITORAH’s musical gift took her to China for the prestigious 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. KITORAH, along with producers Eddie Bullen and Derek Brin, wrote the song, “Make Them All Believe In Me” which she had the honour of performing for the Concert Series, “Marriage Of Excellence”, introduced by the International Performing Arts for All (IPAFA). KITORAH performed in three major cities to re-establish The Arts Games, serving as a bridge between the Paralympics and the Olympics.

img-KitorahKITORAH has also lent her musical support to many charitable events. For the sale of her first solo album, “Love Like Mine”, she will be donating the proceeds to assist St. Peter’s Hospital’s research fund for Muscular Dystrophy and Alzheimer’s Disease as well as to the International Paralympics Association (IPA). Both charitable causes are based in Canada.

With an undeniable passion for her music career, KITORAH has established herself as one of Barbados’ biggest stars. An incomparable soothing tone, commanding stage presence, pure new sound, and all around entertainer, KTIORAH is definitely the next big thing to come out of Barbados, a place that has produced some of the world’s most well-known talents.

Anokhi Gala Awards’ 2010 Most Promising Artist, Farahri, continues to shatter musical and cultural boundaries as she prepares to release her second club banging single, Roll Wit’ Me.

Toronto – March 25, 2010

Following her amazing standing ovation concert performance with Karl Wolf, Farahri prepares to release her second high energy club banging single, Roll Wit’ Me. With the feel good vibes fusing Indian, African, Latin and Caribbean flavours with mainstream Pop, Rock, Hip Hop and R&B, the Ottawa native brings a rare mix of fresh sounds and a multicultural embrace to the Canadian music scene.

Her diversity did not go unnoticed as she won the 2010 Most Promising Artist award at the ANOKHI 4th Annual Awards Gala in February.

Farahri’s debut dance track, “Dance the Night Away”, features Canadian rapper Choclair and sparked buzz in the Toronto club scene. With pop melodies, a Hindi interlude and a remix track with a Reggae Dancehall beat, it combines diverse genres, languages and sounds.

“I want to create a platform where it’s OK to mix cultural influences with accessible music genres, like pop,” says Farahri. “I think the world is ready for this now.”

Farahri finished off 2009 with a vibrant performance in Montego Bay, Jamaica on
December 19th, 2009. This year, Farahri performed alongside Choclair at the ANHOKI Gala.

Raised as an Indian-Canadian in an English and French-speaking home by African-born parents, Farahri wants her music to promote diversity and encourage people to truly embrace other cultures – not just tolerate them.

img-FarahriFluent in French, English and Kutchi, Farahri also sings in Swahili, Spanish, Hindi, Arabic and Jamaican Patois.

In addition, Farahri is also involved as a donor and volunteer for the Aga Khan Development Centre, an international NGO that conducts relief programs in historic cities regardless of citizens’ faith, origin or gender.

Recently, Farahri renewed her 2010 watch endorsement campaign with AMA Swiss Watch Company.

Farahri’s music is available for free listening at

Get hooked on the environment! As Ontario moves towards a zero waste tolerance, companies can now hang their coats responsibly.

Toronto – February 19, 2010

Toronto-based media hook has introduced Canada to the completely biodegradable, eco-friendly smart hanger, made with 100 percent recycled material creating a durable paper-based (FSC approved) clothes hanger. As Ontario moves towards a zero waste tolerance, the province is holding individual producers accountable for their waste products. The smart hanger offers companies a chance to reduce waste, while promoting a healthy environment.

This ‘green hook’ initiative offers businesses the opportunity to meaningfully communicate their core values relating to the environment. The smart hanger serves two key purposes.

Primarily, it allows companies to advertise and communicate messages to the community. Its two square feet of media space offers organizations an opportunity to show their support towards an eco-friendly world, while sharing messages of stewardship with target demographics.

Secondly, the smart hanger serves the function of a sturdy coat hanger. Since its inception, the City of Toronto has accepted the smart hanger into the blue bin program. It is an environmentally sustainable alternative to harmful, non-recyclable plastic and wire hangers that end up in our own landfills. Every year, about 300 million wire and plastic hangers end up in landfills. Counter to that, one tonne of recycled paper keeps 27 kilograms of pollutants out of the atmosphere. With the use of the smart hanger, businesses can make a substantial impact on reducing harmful waste.

img-SmartHanger“Canadian businesses are looking for exciting, functional, green, Canadian-made products and the smart hanger is all of those things. It solves a practical problem and it carries a message of social responsibility,” says Leigh Meadows, product designer and CEO of media hook.

The smart hanger offers a messaging platform that allows companies to share their commitment and encourage others to participate in a greener environment. By replacing the use of metal and plastic hangers with the smart hanger, businesses can reduce their residual waste by up to 30 percent.

Media hook is a Canadian business that combines innovative design with environmentally responsible production. With its growth, it continues to create practical solutions to help conserve our environment.
